The Farm at VYCC Receives New Tractor

Earlier this month, George, Judy, and Virginia Russell made a very generous, multi-year commitment to purchase a New Holland Workmaster 55 tractor for the farm!

The value of this new equipment cannot be overstated and will greatly increase our capacity to grow and donate food to food-insecure families.

The Farm at VYCC has a mission of measurably and significantly reducing the adverse effects of hunger, malnutrition, and obesity in Vermont.  Currently 1 in 7 (14%) of Vermont households do not have enough food to meet basic needs.  An alarming 27,100 children (21%) are hungry, and 90,000 Vermonters (15%) of all ages live in food-insecure households that depend on food shelves each month.

A central strategy in achieving our mission is this year’s pilot program: Health Care Shares.  In partnership with Central Vermont Medical Center (CVMC), we will provide food directly to families in need.  Families will receive over 10 pounds of fresh, organic produce grown by the VYCC, each week, for 12 weeks.
